Rio de Janeiro offers free intermediate English course for youth

The Rio de Janeiro Municipal Youth Secretariat (JUVRio) has opened 50 spots for a free intermediate English course titled ‘Providência Bilíngue – Curso Comunitário de Inglês na Pequena África’. The program is held at the Casa da Juventude Centro in the Gamboa neighborhood.

Targeted at youth aged 15 to 29, the course requires participants to have basic knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary. Applicants must undergo a placement test to confirm their eligibility for the intermediate level. The program is delivered by volunteer exchange students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

The 32-hour course will be conducted entirely in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, running from October 6 to December 15, 2026. Successful students will receive a certificate upon completion. Registration is available through the Portal Oportunidades Cariocas until October 6.
