Rio de Janeiro municipal educational programs

Overview

Municipal authorities in Rio de Janeiro have introduced various free educational and vocational programs for local residents.

In early October 2026, the Municipal Youth Secretariat launched ‘Providência Bilíngue – Curso Comunitário de Inglês na Pequena África’, an intermediate English course for youth aged 15 to 29. The program, facilitated by volunteer exchange students from PUC-Rio, offers 50 spots for participants who pass a placement test.

Concurrently, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and Firjan/Senai opened applications for 120 professional training spots in Information Technology. These courses cover specialized fields such as database administration, computer network systems, front-end programming, and network infrastructure. The IT training is available to residents at least 16 years old who have completed elementary school.
