Rio de Janeiro officials investigate irregular municipal contracts and fuel‑station crime links

The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro filed an urgent request to stop municipal payments to Capital Ambiental, a company that provides outsourced labor for the city’s education system. The ministry argues the contract expired in November 2025 yet payments exceeding R$ 40 million continued, and it seeks a court order to halt further payments from August and to prevent contract renewal.

Separately, a task‑force led by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security is probing more than a thousand fuel stations in the state for possible connections to organized crime. The investigation details are preliminary, with authorities coordinating the Federal Police, the state Public Ministry and civil society to verify the links while ensuring fuel supply is not disrupted.
