Rio de Janeiro opens Caju BRT station, expanding Transbrasil corridor

On Saturday 1 August 2026 the city of Rio de Janeiro inaugurated the Caju station on the Transbrasil BRT corridor. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, MOBI‑Rio director‑president Claudia Secin and Transport Secretary Jorge Arraes.

The new stop brings the corridor to 18 operational stations and is expected to serve about 3,000 passengers daily from neighborhoods such as São Cristóvão, visitors to the Caju Cemetery, port workers and fans heading to the São Januário stadium. It will be served by line 60 (Gentileza ↔ Deodoro – Parador) with buses arriving roughly every three minutes during peak hours, operating from 04:00 to 00:00. The BRT system moves more than 650,000 riders a day, of which around 150,000 travel the Transbrasil line. Local resident Juliana Nunes said the station improves safety and shortens her commute.
