Rio de Janeiro opens new Trevo das Missões viaduct as Bela Vista streets are restructured

The Rio de Janeiro city government will open the newly completed viaduct over the Trevo das Missões this week. Officials say the structure will cut travel time by 15 to 30 minutes for drivers and passengers accessing Avenida Brasil via BR‑040, and will streamline bus routes that previously had to cross central lanes. The opening follows months of complaints from commuters and a formal request to the municipal executive in January.

Meanwhile, the municipal transport agency Agetran has begun a phased reorganization of traffic in the Jardim Bela Vista neighbourhood. Work started on Rua Francisco Bento between Avenida Ricardo Brandão and Rua Joaquim Murtinho, with later stages targeting Rua Fidelina da Silva Vendas and Rua Augusto Figueiredo. Night‑time construction and temporary signage aim to minimise disruption and improve safety by easing vehicle flow and reducing collision risks at key intersections.
