Rio de Janeiro police arrest tourism agency owner for travel scams
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police arrested Vitória da Cunha Ferreira Alvim, owner of the agency Latitude Outdoor Adventures, on suspicion of orchestrating multi-million real travel scams.
Operating through social media, the agency offered complete domestic and international travel packages, including airfare and accommodation. Victims were lured by the promise of organized services and would sign contracts before paying the full amounts via PIX.
Investigations revealed that after receiving payments, the suspect failed to issue tickets or make hotel reservations. The fraud typically came to light when travelers attempted to retrieve vouchers near their departure dates. One reported victim suffered losses of approximately R$ 8,700 to R$ 9,000 for trips intended for Chile and San Andrés.
