Rio de Janeiro police deaths include female inspector and officer
Police inspector Daniela Cunha Moreira, 43, of the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, was found dead in Iguaba Grande on 27 March. Her disappearance after missing a shift led investigators to treat the case as femicide. The body was recovered from a house in the Cidade Nova neighbourhood, and the investigation, led by the Niterói, São Gonçalo and Itaboraí homicide division, resulted in the arrest of her former partner and his parents. A funeral service was held in Rio before her remains were transferred to Araxá, Minas Gerais for burial.
On 28 March, a high‑speed police pursuit on Avenida Brasil ended in a shoot‑out that killed military police officer Fernando Plácido Roberto Rocha and four suspected members of the Comando Vermelho gang. Two other suspects and a civilian were wounded. Police seized six rifles, three pistols and a grenade. The suspects were linked to a criminal group led by Rodney Lima de Freitas, who is wanted on multiple homicide and drug‑trafficking charges.
