Rio de Janeiro political elite list and procurement controversies spark scrutiny
A consulting firm released an "Elite Parlamentar" list naming twelve Rio de Janeiro federal legislators and two senators, highlighting their party affiliations. Authorities are reportedly preparing new phases of Operation Unha e Carne, targeting state deputies alleged to have ties with militias and criminal groups.
In the same region, municipal governments faced a series of public‑administration issues. Itaguaí honored local politicians, including mayor Eduardo Paes, while Volta Redonda’s mayor Antônio Francisco Neto continues to face an improbity lawsuit over a school‑meal contract with Verdurama. The city also postponed a R$ 414 k ventilator procurement, spent R$ 135 k on a Barão Vermelho concert, and signed contracts worth about R$ 1.75 million for the Arraiá da Cidadania festival.
Additional local incidents included the dismissal of Jorge Sapão from a congressional office amid a racketeering probe and a scheduled PT rally in Japeri that underscored the mobilisation of public‑sector workers.
