Rio de Janeiro posts R$4 billion surplus, appoints new Ceperj president
Acting governor Ricardo Couto appointed Marilia Ortiz as president of the Fundação Ceperj. Ortiz, a federal analyst with a doctorate candidacy at FGV and former municipal finance secretary in Niterói, will lead the agency that supports technical research, statistical information and public‑servant training for the state.
In the first four months of 2026, Rio de Janeiro's Treasury reported a fiscal surplus of R$4 billion, although this real‑term result is 41 % lower than the same period in 2025. Net revenue reached R$36.7 billion, exceeding the budget estimate. ICMS tax collection rose 21.1 %, driven by petroleum, natural‑gas extraction and refining activities, while royalties totalled R$6.7 billion, slightly above the budget projection.
