Rio de Janeiro samba schools select themes for 2027 Carnival
Major samba schools in Rio de Janeiro have begun selecting their official sambas-enredo for the 2027 Carnival. Portela announced its winning composition by the partnership of Wanderley Monteiro and others, which will honor the legendary Monarco under the theme ‘Ao mestre, com carinho’.
Other prominent schools have also finalized their musical themes. Mangueira selected a samba titled ‘Oyá Por Nós’, focusing on the deity Iansã, while Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel chose a composition centered on Latin American unity.
In preparation for its debut in the Special Group, União de Maricá has identified five semifinalist sambas for its theme ‘Utopia Brasil: Darcy Ribeiro’. Additionally, the return of samba parades to Campinas has been rescheduled to April 3, 2027, to respect religious traditions and ensure a more inclusive event.
