Brazil Carnival 2027: Samba schools finalize themes and music

Preparations for the 2027 Carnival are underway in Brazil, with many samba schools in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro finalizing their themes and musical compositions. Approximately 80% of the special group schools have already defined their samba-enredo.

In Rio de Janeiro, Unidos de Vila Isabel selected a samba by Martinho da Vila to accompany their theme inspired by the book ‘Torto Arado’. Other schools, including Porto da Pedra, are also moving forward with themes centered on ancestrality and cultural connections, such as Angola. Rosa de Ouro is preparing for its parade with a theme dedicated to Saint George.

In São Paulo, schools like Pérola Negra, Vai-Vai, and Barroca Zona Sul have established their themes. The Barroca Zona Sul is entering the 2027 season following a historic fifth-place finish in the Anhembi Sambadrome.

Logistics for the festivities are also being organized. The Liga Independente das Escolas de Samba de São Paulo has begun physical ticket sales at the Fábrica do Samba, offering installment options to facilitate community access. The São Paulo parades are scheduled for February 5 and 6, 2027, while Rio de Janeiro's special group will parade at the Marquês de Sapucaí on February 7, 8, and 9.
