Rio de Janeiro samba schools prepare for Carnival 2027

Preparations for the 2027 Rio de Janeiro Carnival are underway, highlighted by the recording of official samba-enredo albums and major school events. The 12 samba schools of the Special Group recently completed live recordings of their anthems at a studio in Jacarepaguá. Produced by Edimusa, the label of the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro (Liesa), the album is scheduled for release on digital platforms in November.

In addition to the musical recordings, Império Serrano is hosting the grand final to select its samba-enredo for the 2027 festivities. The event features Quitéria Chagas, the school’s Rainha de Bateria, who will perform in costumes inspired by the theme ‘Seja Marginal, Seja Herói: A Revolução em sua Legítima Razão’. This theme explores counterculture as a form of resistance during the Brazilian military dictatorship.
