Rio de Janeiro to Add Two New Access Ramps on Avenida Brasil for Port Traffic

Rio de Janeiro’s municipal government will begin construction on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 of two new access ramps (“agulhas”) on Avenida Brasil at the Manguinhos neighborhood. The R$1.5 million project is slated to run for about 90 days and will create one ramp for west‑bound traffic and another for east‑bound traffic, linking directly to Avenida Portuária and the Portão 32 terminal of the Port of Rio.

City officials say the works will separate heavy‑truck flows from the adjacent Linha Amarela, reduce congestion, increase safety and streamline freight movement to the port. Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere called the intervention “a direct response to demand from those who work and move the city’s economy,” while the Secretary of Conservation and Public Services highlighted the expected gains in traffic fluidity and cargo security.
