Rio de Janeiro to convert Estádio de Remo da Lagoa into cultural hub
The Rio de Janeiro state government, through the Secretariat of the Casa Civil, is preparing a concession tender to grant private use of the Estádio de Remo da Lagoa for 20 years. The edital is expected to be published in the Official Gazette by the end of September.
The 9,000‑square‑metre venue, known as Lagoon, is slated to receive about R$19 million in investments for recovery, modernization and preservation. The concessionaire would manage the site and transform it into a cultural and entertainment pole, adding cinemas, theatres, concert spaces and other public‑access activities, aiming to revitalize a symbolic area of Rio’s South Zone.
