Rio de Janeiro traffic authority schedules multiple tunnel and overpass closures for mid‑June

The Rio de Janeiro municipal transit agency, CET‑Rio, announced a series of scheduled road closures for maintenance and revitalisation. On 15‑16 June, the Santa Bárbara tunnel (Laranjeiras direction) will be closed from 23:30 to 04:30, the Rebouças tunnel (Centro direction) from 22:00 to 05:00, the Zuzu Angel and Acústico tunnels (Gávea direction) from 23:30 to 05:00, and the lower deck of the Elevado das Bandeiras (São Conrado direction) from 23:00 to 04:30. Alternate routes include the Avenida Niemeyer, which will remain open with two‑way traffic.

A second set of closures is planned for 17‑18 June. The lower deck of the Elevado das Bandeiras will be unavailable from 23:00 on 17 June to 04:30 on 18 June; the Santa Bárbara tunnel (Santo Cristo direction) will be closed from 23:30 to 04:30, the Rebouças tunnel (Lagoa direction) from 22:00 to 05:00, and the Acústico and Zuzu Angel tunnels (São Conrado direction) from 23:30 to 05:00. Drivers are advised to follow posted signage and use the Avenida Niemeyer for detours. CET‑Rio will monitor traffic conditions and adjust signal timings as needed.
