Rio de Janeiro unveils $81.1 million Campo Grande Intermodal Bus Terminal

On Saturday, 11 July, the Rio de Janeiro city government presented the new Campo Grande Intermodal Terminal, a mobility project for the city’s western zone. The terminal will be built on a 22,200 m² site between Estrada da Caroba and Rua Campo Grande, with an estimated investment of R$ 81.1 million.

The facility will integrate 33 bus lines – 21 municipal routes from the first phase of the Sistema RIO and 12 inter‑municipal lines serving Itaguaí, Seropédica, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, Nilópolis and Duque de Caxias – linking them to the nearby BRT Campo Grande terminal. Designed for about 60 buses simultaneously, the two‑level building includes covered platforms, driver‑support areas, security posts, public restrooms, 10 commercial kiosks and a bicycle rack.

Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere said the terminal will improve safety, predictability and dignity for passengers in the Zona Oeste and Baixada Fluminense, applying to conventional buses the same quality standards already used on BRT services. Construction will begin after the licensing process and is expected to be completed within two years, forming a new transport hub for more than 350 thousand residents of the western district.
