Rio de Janeiro witnesses drone‑grenade strike and bus shooting amid anti‑gang crackdown
Criminal elements linked to the Comando Vermelho used a drone to launch a grenade that hit a family home in the Rio das Pedras favela, southwest Rio de Janeiro. Residents reported the explosion and intense gunfire as militia members defended the community.
In the city's southern zone, police conducting the "Operação Contenção" in the Dona Marta area detained six suspects. During the operation a civilian was shot in the leg while riding a bus on Rua São Clemente. The incident raised the total number of stray‑bullet victims in the Rio metropolitan region to 51, including 13 deaths, according to the Instituto Fogo Cruzado. Tourists at the nearby Mirante Dona Marta were also startled by the gunfire.
