Rio Grande do Norte advances railway and green energy initiatives
The government of Rio Grande do Norte and Sudene have partnered to conduct a technical, economic, and environmental feasibility study for a new railway section. This project aims to connect the Transnordestina railway corridor to the municipalities of Mossoró and Caiçara do Norte, specifically linking to the future Green Industry Port.
Governor Fátima Bezerra stated that the expansion could reduce logistics costs and increase regional production capacity for sectors including mining, oil, gas, irrigated agriculture, and renewable energy. The corridor is expected to facilitate the transport of sea salt, export fruits, and equipment for wind, solar, and green hydrogen industries.
In a related development regarding the region's energy transition, the 'Futuros Verdes no Nordeste' project is mapping economic opportunities across nine Northeastern states, including Rio Grande do Norte. This initiative, involving the Instituto Clima e Sociedade and the Center for Advanced Studies and Systems of Recife, seeks to identify low-carbon industrial chains and professional skills required to support the growing wind and solar sectors.
