Brazilian bankers approve strikes over salary negotiations

Bankers across several Brazilian states have approved strikes or states of strike following failed salary negotiations with the National Federation of Banks (Fenaban). In Maranhão and Rio Grande do Norte, workers have authorized indefinite strikes set to begin on September 2. Additionally, unions in Bahia and Sergipe have entered a state of strike, which could lead to immediate work stoppages if upcoming negotiations do not yield satisfactory results.

Fenaban recently increased its proposal to include a 100% replacement of the INPC inflation index for salaries and Profit Sharing (PLR). However, the National Command of Bankers rejected this offer, stating it lacks real wage increases. While the proposal covers inflation, unions argue it fails to provide actual growth in purchasing power and does not meet their demands for improved benefits and profit distribution.

In a separate negotiation, Banco do Nordeste (BNB) presented specific updates regarding health benefits and professional training, but workers' representatives maintain that the bank's overall package remains insufficient to address core demands.
