Rio Grande do Norte begins construction of new prison unit in Alcaçuz

The Government of Rio Grande do Norte has begun construction of a new provisional detention center within the Alcaçuz Complex in Nísia Floresta. The project involves an investment of approximately R$ 7.1 million and will provide 189 new prison spaces across a built area of roughly 2,800 square meters.

The project was originally planned for the Potengi neighborhood in Natal but was relocated to Nísia Floresta following a judicial dispute. The move allows the state to utilize existing security, surveillance, and logistical infrastructure already present at the Alcaçuz site. Initial works, including land clearing and topographical definition, are currently underway.

In addition to the new unit, the complex is undergoing other infrastructure improvements, such as the installation of a 140,000-liter water tank and a R$ 1.8 million sanitation project to restructure the sewage system for the Alcaçuz State Penitentiary and the Rogério Coutinho Madruga State Penitentiary.
