Rio Grande do Norte government mandates 25% reduction in operating costs

The Government of Rio Grande do Norte has issued a decree requiring state agencies to submit proposals to reduce operating expenses by 25% by October 14. Signed by Governor Fátima Bezerra, Decree No. 35.868 targets costs related to water, energy, telephone, cleaning, and rent.

The measures also impose restrictions on new appointments for permanent and temporary staff, as well as new leases for labor, real estate, and vehicles through December 31, 2026. Exceptions are permitted for essential services such as health, education, and public security, or cases mandated by the judiciary. The decree does not mandate layoffs or salary reductions, but it does restrict new expenses related to the transfer or leave of civil servants when they incur costs for the Executive branch.
