Brazil's 2025 Ideb records historic gains in basic education FAST-MOVING

The 2025 edition of Brazil's Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (Ideb) showed the strongest improvement in two decades, rising 0.8 points across the three evaluated stages. Early‑year scores reached 6.3, surpassing the target of 6, while later‑year scores rose to 5.3, still below the 5.5 goal. High‑school results improved to 4.5, also under the 5.2 benchmark.

Paraná led the national ranking with 6.9 in early years, 5.8 in later years and 5.1 in high school, while Amazonas recorded the lowest figures (6.0, 4.9 and 3.8 respectively). Rio Grande do Norte posted a 25 % jump to a 4.0 overall score, its best ever. Several municipalities posted record results, notably Feira de Santana (4.9 in early years) and Apucarana (7.4 in early years).

Minister of Education Leonardo Barchini attributed the progress to higher enrolment, reduced repetition and gains in learning. The Ministry of Education announced technical assistance for the 442 municipalities that remain below a 4.9 early‑year Ideb, aiming to boost learning outcomes nationwide.
