The 2025 edition of Brazil's Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica (Ideb) recorded its largest improvement in two decades, rising 0.8 points across the early‑years, later‑years and high‑school stages. Nationally, the early‑years score reached 6.3, surpassing the target of 6.0, while the later‑years score was 5.3, below the 5.5 target, and the high‑school score was 4.5, under the 5.2 target.

Paraná led the nation with scores of 6.9, 5.8 and 5.1 in the three stages, attributing the rise to a recomposition programme that adds extra Portuguese and mathematics classes. Alagoas recorded a historic 26 municipal schools achieving the maximum Ideb score of 10. In the North, Amazonas posted the lowest state results (6.0, 4.9 and 3.8). Several municipalities also posted notable advances, such as Itatim in Bahia, which obtained the highest early‑years score of 8.6, and Xapuri in Acre, which moved to the third‑best position in the state with an early‑years score of 6.5. The Ministry of Education announced technical assistance for the 442 municipalities that still score below 4.9.
