Rio Grande do Norte reservoirs reach 46.1% capacity

Reservoirs in Rio Grande do Norte have reached 46.1% of their total storage capacity, according to data from the State Secretariat for the Environment and Water Resources (Semarh). This represents a 2.24 percentage point increase compared to the same period in 2025, though levels remain lower than those recorded in 2023 and 2024.

Storage levels vary significantly across the state. The Engenheiro Armando Ribeiro Gonçalves dam, the largest in the region, holds 37.11% of its capacity. In contrast, the Oiticica and Santa Cruz do Apodi dams show higher levels, at 69.28% and 67.67% respectively.

Despite the overall increase, five reservoirs are currently dry: Itans, Passagem das Traíras, Dourado, Caldeirão de Parelhas, and Mundo Novo. Several other water sources are in critical condition, with levels below 10%, including Jesus Maria José at 1.04% and Alecrim at 1.43%.
