Rio Grande do Norte sees tourism growth and new air routes

Tourism and air connectivity in Rio Grande do Norte are seeing significant growth. Azul Linhas Aéreas is resuming flights between Mossoró and Recife starting September 3, 2026. This route, supported by a state government decree providing tax incentives on aviation kerosene, will operate twice weekly using ATR aircraft with a 70-passenger capacity.

Concurrently, data from the Rio Grande do Norte Tourism Intelligence System (Sírio) indicates that the average spending of tourists in the state increased by 38.4% between January and July 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The average expenditure rose from R$ 446.80 to R$ 620.40. While domestic visitor spending grew by 6.8%, international tourism remains a key component, with Argentinians and Portuguese representing the largest foreign groups.
