Rio Grande do Sul advances highway duplication, new regional hospital and climate‑resilient infrastructure plan

In Capão da Canoa, deputy Luciano Zucco and the Força Gaúcha program gathered local officials to push several infrastructure and health demands for the state's litoral. The main priority is the duplication of the RS‑389 highway, a single‑lane road that “É uma estrada que tira vidas,” according to vice‑mayor Renato Silveira. Participants also called for a new regional hospital to reduce daily patient transfers to Porto Alegre and for additional police resources to match population growth.

Separately, deputy Pepe Vargas presented Bill 134/2026, which would establish a Rio Grande do Sul State Policy on Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience. The proposal outlines an integrated logistics network of roads, railways, waterways and digital connectivity, stricter environmental safeguards, and measures to strengthen small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises. It seeks long‑term investment to boost the region’s competitiveness while addressing climate‑related risks.
