Heavy rains associated with the 2026 El Niño caused the Rio das Antas bridge in the Serra Gaúcha to shift about 20 cm, prompting a complete closure and a detour onto BR‑470. In the Rio Tocantins region, the Ponte Prefeito Leôncio Miranda near Pedro Afonso was deemed irreparably damaged after load‑testing revealed permanent deformation and concrete decay, leading the DNIT to order its demolition and reconstruction. A similar safety issue forced a total block on the ERS 129 bridge between Encantado and Muçum.

Meanwhile, local authorities completed several bridge upgrades: the Hormínio bridge over the Rio Formoso in Bonito was refurbished to improve safety for residents, farmers, students and tourists; and a community‑built crossing over the Rio Caí in Feliz, Rio Grande do Sul, suffered severe rain damage and was again closed for assessment. In a cross‑border project, the Bioceânica bridge linking Porto Murtinho, Brazil, with Carmelo Peralta, Paraguay, achieved the final structural joining of its two halves, marking a key step toward a bi‑continental transport corridor.
