Electoral courts suspend political advertisements in Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio Grande do Sul (TRE-RS) has suspended electoral advertisements for candidates Frederico Antunes and Gabriel Souza. The court ruled that the participation of Governor Eduardo Leite in these clips exceeded the 25% legal limit for supporters during free electoral broadcasting. In Antunes’s 80-second advertisement, Leite appeared for approximately 40 seconds. Failure to comply with the suspension may result in a fine of R$ 10,000 per new exhibition.

In São Paulo, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-SP) issued an injunction prohibiting the City Hall and the State Government from maintaining institutional advertising on social media and digital platforms. The decision follows a complaint by the Fernando Haddad campaign, alleging that the administration used public resources to promote state works—such as the Praça do Triunfo and the Line 17-Gold Metro—during the prohibited electoral period. The court ordered the removal of these videos from YouTube and Google, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 10,000.

Separately, in São Paulo, the State Court of Guarantees has requested further evidence from the Civil Police regarding an investigation into the film producer of ‘Dark Horse.’ The investigation concerns potential misappropriation of funds from the São Paulo City Hall, involving a R$ 108 million contract.
