Rio Grande do Sul implements WhatsApp for school enrollment

The state government of Rio Grande do Sul has launched a new method for the 2027 school year enrollment process, allowing parents and guardians to initiate requests via WhatsApp. The service utilizes GurIA, a virtual assistant integrated with the State Secretariat of Education (Seduc) system, to guide citizens through the application steps.

Enrollment is open until November 6 for various modalities, including elementary, high school, and Youth and Adult Education (EJA). While the virtual assistant facilitates the initial request, the process requires authentication via the gov.br platform and must follow subsequent official Seduc regulations to finalize the enrollment.

In Porto Alegre, the municipal education network is also managing transitions for students moving from early childhood education to the first year of elementary school. This municipal process requires legal guardians to visit designated elementary schools to finalize enrollment between October 21 and November 13.
