Rio Grande do Sul provides mental‑health aid and guide after 2024 floods
The 2024 floods that struck 19 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul left many residents with lasting psychological trauma. The Hospital Moinhos de Vento, through the Recomeçar RS project, has offered a free, evidence‑based mental‑health program (EP+ protocol) that has delivered 917 counseling sessions, completed 94 full cycles and continues to accept new participants.
Separately, the Associação Brasileira de Municípios released a Practical Guide for confronting Super El Niño and other extreme climate events. The guide advises municipal leaders on prevention, emergency response and post‑disaster recovery, emphasizing coordinated planning, risk mapping and clear responsibilities for city services.
