Rio Jari waterfall compared to Iguazu Falls during Amazon expedition

An expedition through the Amazon rainforest has highlighted the impressive scale of the Santo Antônio Waterfall on the Jari River, located on the border between the Brazilian states of Amapá and Pará.

Botanist Ricardo Cardim and photographer Cássio Vasconcelos encountered the massive water feature during an August 2026 trip intended to document monumental trees and conduct scientific research. The waterfall, situated near Laranjal do Jari (AP) and Afuá (PA), consists of dozens of drops and has been compared to the Iguazu Falls due to its visual impact and scale.

The expedition aims to combine science and photography to document the biodiversity and lesser-known landscapes of the world's largest tropical forest.
