Rio Mayor Donates 150 Pistols to Duque de Caxias Municipal Guard

On 16 July, Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Cavaliere signed an agreement to transfer 150 Taurus pistols, originally supplied to the Rio municipal guard by the Federal Highway Police, to the municipal guard of Duque de Caxias. The ceremony was held at the Academy of the Elite Division of the Guard in Irajá and was attended by Duque de Caxias mayor Netinho Reis, Rio’s urban security secretary Brenno Carnevale, the city council president and the director‑general of the Force Municipal.

The donation is part of a technical cooperation pact between the two municipalities that also includes a training course for 528 Duque de Caxias agents on the differentiated use of force, running from 13 to 17 July. The program covers legal, doctrinal and technical aspects of proportional and ethical force application, with plans for reciprocal training of Rio agents in Duque de Caxias facilities.

Both officials highlighted the partnership as a model for municipal security cooperation, with Cavaliere noting the pistols are “ready to be used by the agents” and Reis emphasizing the unity of “Cariocas and Caxienses” in addressing public‑safety challenges.
