Environmental maintenance and pollution investigations reported in Brazil

Various environmental and maintenance operations are underway across Brazil to manage urban waterways and address pollution concerns.

In Cuiabá, Limpurb is conducting cleaning operations in the Araés neighborhood stream. The initiative involves removing solid waste—including furniture and appliances—and cutting tall vegetation to prevent flooding and protect permanent preservation areas. Officials noted that irregular waste disposal by the population remains a significant challenge.

In Goiânia, authorities are investigating the appearance of large amounts of foam in the Meia Ponte River near the Caiçara sector. The State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) and the Environmental Crimes Police (DEMA) have collected water samples for laboratory analysis to determine if the foam resulted from irregular effluent discharge. Saneago stated that the phenomenon occurred after public water intake points and may be related to turbulence and detergent compounds.

Additionally, the Urbanization Company of Goiânia (Comurg) has completed a preventive cleaning of 14km of the Botafogo Stream. This task involved removing debris and vegetation to ensure proper drainage and prevent overflows along the Marginal Botafogo artery during the rainy season.
