Riot Games launches League of Legends Classic mode on July 29, 2026

Riot Games announced at the Mid‑Season Invitational finals that a new nostalgic mode, League of Legends Classic, will be added to the existing LoL client on July 29 2026. The mode revives early‑season content: a vintage Summoner’s Rift, classic champion skins, the original rune and mastery system, and items from the first three seasons. Sixty champions will be available at launch—forty from the original roster and twenty additional champions released between 2009 and 2013—with more to be added later. Players can access PvP, cooperative AI, and custom games; ranked play is omitted in favor of a ten‑tier “Sal to Legend” progression system tied to a free and paid battle pass that rewards runes, skins and other cosmetics.

A showcase match featuring early‑era esports legends was staged during the MSI finals, and a special showmatch between Brazilian teams paiN Gaming and CNB was announced to celebrate the mode’s debut. Riot also said the community will help shape future updates through voting on balance and content decisions. The Classic mode is intended as a long‑term offering, aiming to attract veteran players while providing a nostalgic experience for newer fans.
