Riot Games proceeded with the free global launch of the permanent League of Legends Classic mode as scheduled. On 28 July 2026 the company announced that players who already own the main game could access the mode directly from the Riot client without a separate account or download. The mode recreates early‑season content—original champions, items, runes, and maps—and includes modern quality‑of‑life upgrades such as spell buffering, optional WASD controls, and updated matchmaking. A free Classic Level system unlocks runes, skins and other rewards, while optional paid cosmetics remain available.

The following day Riot confirmed that the mode was live and detailed its features: a separate nostalgic gameplay environment with 2012‑2013 champions (e.g., AP Sword Master, early‑version Fiora, Akali, Sion) and a full recreation of the Season 3 item set. Player‑driven “Parliament” voting will shape future champion additions and balance changes. A dedicated development team will continue to provide updates.
