Riot Games launches League of Legends Classic mode on July 29, 2026

Riot Games has announced the new "League of Legends Classic" mode, a return to the game's early seasons (2009‑2013). The mode will go live on Wednesday 29 July 2026 at 17:00 CET and can be accessed through a separate tab in the Riot client.

Classic will launch with 60 champions – the original 40 plus 20 hand‑picked early champions – and will reinstate the classic rune pages and mastery tracks. Players progress via a free "Classic Level" system that unlocks champions, skins and other rewards, with optional seasonal passes and a voting council for community feedback. The mode is initially available on the public test realm (PBE), with potential latency for North American users.

Riot confirmed that more champions from the 2009‑2013 period will be added over time, and that the mode is intended as a long‑term alternative rather than a temporary event.
