Riot Games to end active development of 2XKO in December

Riot Games has announced that it will end active development of its free-to-play fighting game, 2XKO, in December. The studio cited a lack of a “path to profitability,” noting that revenue, player retention, and engagement were insufficient to sustain the project.

While active development is ceasing, the game's servers will remain online for the foreseeable future. All previously announced major updates, including the addition of champions Lux and Samira, will still be released. Following the end of development, Riot plans to unlock all champions for players for free.

To conclude the game's lifecycle, Riot will release a final patch as early as October and will offer an “Ultimate Bundle” for approximately 39.99 euros containing nearly all available cosmetic items. Additionally, ranked lobbies will be closed, leaving skill-based casual matchmaking as the primary online option. Riot will also refund all in-game purchases made before August 20 by November.
