Riot Games 2XKO development cessation

Overview

Riot Games announced it will cease active development of its fighting game, 2XKO, by December 2026. The studio cited insufficient player retention, engagement, and revenue, noting a lack of a “path to profitability.”

While active development is ending, the game will not be shut down; servers will remain online and offline play will be possible. Riot plans to release the characters Lux and Samira before the development cycle concludes. To finalize the project, Riot will unlock all characters for players, close ranked lobbies in favor of casual matchmaking, and offer an “Ultimate Bundle” of cosmetic items. Additionally, the company will refund eligible in-game purchases made on or before August 20, 2026.
