Riot Games unveils League of Legends Classic mode for 2026

Riot Games released a preview video on 27 June 2026 announcing a new "League of Legends Classic" mode that will let players experience the early version of the game. The video features executive producer Pabro and studio leader Meddler discussing a return to the balance, items, visuals and map layout of the early seasons, with references to Season 2 and classic items such as the "Heart of Gold".

The mode is slated for a July 2026 launch, with the exact release date set for 22 July and further details to be revealed during the Mid‑Season Invitational finals on 11 July. Riot said the mode will restore a historic patch, bringing back about 60 original champions and the original runes, items and summons, while excluding some reworked characters. The announcement is intended to cater to nostalgic players and could shape future community engagement with the title.
