Riot Platforms signs $9.1 billion AI capacity deal with Anthropic
Riot Platforms has entered into a landmark 20-year agreement to supply 191 megawatts of computing capacity to Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model. The contract, centered at Riot’s Rockdale, Texas, campus, is expected to generate approximately $9.1 billion in revenue over its initial term. The deal includes two five-year extension options that could potentially increase the total contract value to $16.1 billion.
The capacity will be deployed in stages: the first 96 megawatts are scheduled to be operational by December 2027, with the full 191 megawatts expected to be ready by June 2028. To support the initial stages of this infrastructure project, Morgan Stanley has provided $573 million in financing.
This agreement marks a significant strategic pivot for Riot Platforms, transitioning the company from a pure-play Bitcoin miner toward becoming an AI infrastructure provider. Combined with an existing agreement with AMD, Riot has now secured approximately 241 megawatts of contracted capacity, representing roughly $9.8 billion in long-term, contracted data center revenue.
