Rising energy and housing costs spark social unrest in Europe
Protests regarding housing rights and the cost of living have emerged in Spain and France, with demonstrators demanding that housing and education be prioritized. In France, some demonstrations have been marked by violence.
In Italy, representatives from Feder. Casa and Confimprenditori have expressed concern that rising energy costs, driven by increased oil and gas prices, are placing an unsustainable burden on citizens. Gianluigi Pascoletti, Secretary General of Feder. Casa, warned that families may soon have to choose between heating and essential goods. He called for a structural change in energy policy to prioritize citizens over large corporations.
Additionally, Stefano Ruvolo, National President of Confimprenditori, highlighted the difficulties faced by businesses, noting that rising fuel costs are penalizing sectors such as fishing and agriculture, while also driving inflation and reducing consumer purchasing power.
