Overview

The European housing crisis and associated civil unrest continue to intensify. Driven by property prices outpacing income growth and rising interest rates, a significant generational gap has emerged. In Spain, a widening gap between stagnant wages and soaring property prices has become a central political issue, with housing prices rising 84.6% between 2015 and 2025 while average annual gross wages grew by only 27.85%. In Portugal, housing evaluations reached a median of 2,278 euros per square meter in September 2026, a 14.2% annual increase.

Social unrest has escalated into widespread, synchronized protests.
