Disney World grapples with soaring Lightning Lane fees, summer restaurant closures and ride safety changes

Walt Disney World’s new Lightning Lane pricing can approach $300 for a family of four on busy days, prompting many parents to view the service as a “family tax” needed to avoid lengthy standby lines.

Two flagship resort restaurants – Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club and the Grand Floridian Café – have been closed for refurbishment, with the former out of service until August 2026 and the latter until October 2026, shrinking dining options during the peak summer season.

Disney has also been testing crowd‑flow adjustments on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride after preshow‑room crowding created a safety hazard. Trials have included separating Lightning Lane and standby guests, blocking exit doors and dividing guests into three lanes released sequentially.
