River embankment breaches trigger severe flooding across Bihar and Kushinagar

Severe flooding is impacting multiple regions in India following heavy rainfall in Nepal, which has caused several major rivers to breach embankments and exceed danger levels.

In Kushinagar, a breach in a Narayani River embankment has submerged 32 villages. Residents have been forced to use boats for transportation and move belongings to rooftops as homes and agricultural fields remain underwater. Relief teams are working to seal the breach while providing medical assistance and supplies to displaced families.

In Bihar, the Central Water Commission has issued an ‘Orange’ bulletin, placing 28 locations on alert for severe flooding. The Gandak River has breached embankments in the Saran district, inundating areas such as Amnour and Jagdishpur. Additionally, the Ganga River is flowing above the danger mark at several locations, including Danapur and Patna.

Authorities have deployed 12 NDRF and seven SDRF teams to intensify rescue and relief operations as rising water levels from the Gandak, Kosi, and Bagmati rivers continue to put pressure on embankments across several districts.
