Argentina floods: El Niño causes widespread river flooding and evacuations

The El Niño phenomenon is causing severe flooding across multiple Argentine provinces due to intense rainfall and rising river levels. In Chaco, over 2,000 people have been evacuated as the Paraná and Paraguay rivers overflow, with significant impact in Barranqueras and Puerto Vilelas.

Misiones is facing critical conditions with 14 fluvial border crossings closed and 154 people evacuated. The Iguazú River reached a record flow of 17,700 cubic meters per second, forcing the preventive closure of the Upper Circuit at Iguazú Falls.

In Corrientes, the Paraná and Uruguay rivers have caused evacuations in Itatí, where more than 550 people have left their homes. Neuquén has declared a six-month meteorological emergency as heavy rains have isolated rural towns and disrupted logistics in the Vaca Muerta region. Additionally, agricultural entities in Entre Ríos are seeking a one-year agricultural emergency declaration to mitigate losses for livestock producers.
