Ramón Díaz denies contact with River Plate amid return rumors
Ramón Díaz has addressed rumors regarding a potential return to River Plate, clarifying that neither he nor his son, Emiliano, have been contacted by the club's management. Despite the lack of formal communication, Díaz expressed a strong desire to return to the institution, stating that he “rejected a great opportunity at Corinthians waiting for an opportunity at River when it comes.”
The possibility of his return has gained momentum following River Plate's recent struggles, including a 1-1 draw against Sarmiento that left the team in eighth place in the annual standings and outside the playoff positions for the Clausura tournament. The club's current performance has also cast doubt on the continuity of interim manager Leonardo Ponzio.
While the board, led by Stefano Di Carlo, had initially planned to make a definitive decision at the end of the year, the team's difficult sporting situation—including a 31-match streak without winning after conceding first—may accelerate the transition. The club's upcoming match against Belgrano is seen as a decisive factor that could determine whether the coaching change occurs immediately or at the conclusion of the current championship.
