Rivers Ghaghara and Saryu swell, threatening villages with flooding

Rising water levels in the Ghaghara and Saryu rivers have triggered flood warnings in several regions. In Gonda, the Ghaghara River is swelling, threatening more than 15 villages in the Colonelganj and Tarabganj tehsil areas. An estimated population of 30,000 people is at risk of being affected if water levels continue to rise over the next four days. Local administration has activated revenue and relief departments to monitor sensitive areas and prepare for potential evacuations.

In Mau, the Saryu River has crossed the danger mark, reaching 70.00 meters, which is 10 centimeters above the established threshold of 69.90 meters. The river's water level rose by 40 centimeters within a 24-hour period. Authorities are on alert as the rising water threatens low-lying areas and agricultural land, prompting calls for residents to remain vigilant and keep children away from riverbanks.
