Rivers Mandakini and Kharkai exceed danger levels amid heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall and the release of water from reservoirs have triggered flood warnings in multiple regions. In Chitrakoot, the Mandakini River has risen above the danger mark for the second time in 26 days, following significant flooding in late August. The rising water levels have reached Ramghat and surrounding low-lying areas, prompting administrations in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to issue alerts and advise residents to move to safer locations.
In Jamshedpur, the Kharkai River has also crossed the danger level near the Adityapur bridge. This surge is attributed to continuous rainfall and the discharge of excess water from various reservoirs, including the Chandil Dam, Ganjia Barrage, and dams in Odisha. Water has begun entering low-lying neighborhoods such as Bagbera, Kadma, and Mango. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in the area, with continued inclement weather expected through late September.
