Rivers State Assembly probes PAMO University funding
The Rivers State House of Assembly has summoned the Vice-Chancellor of PAMO University of Medical Sciences and several state officials to explain the utilization of scholarship funds released to the institution.
In addition to the university management, the summons includes the State Accountant General, the Commissioner for Education, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The investigation follows a preliminary report from an ad hoc committee regarding scholarship funds. Speaker Martin Amaewhule stated the probe is being conducted pursuant to Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution to determine if previous allocations were used for their intended purposes.
The legislative action follows the Assembly's recent rejection of a proposed ₦6 billion allocation to PAMO University within the state's 2026 budget. The invited officials are expected to appear before the committee on September 16.
