Rivers State Police dismiss three officers over Anthony Obodo killing
The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers following the fatal shooting of Anthony Obodo, a 22-year-old graduate of the University of Port Harcourt. The incident occurred on August 27 along the Agip-Ada George route in Port Harcourt when a police patrol team attempted to stop Obodo’s tinted Lexus vehicle.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju announced the dismissals after an orderly room trial determined the officers' culpability. The command stated that the dismissed personnel will face criminal proceedings in court. Additionally, Inspector Solomon Nworgu, who allegedly fled the scene after the shooting, has been declared a deserter and is currently wanted by authorities.
The shooting, which reportedly involved Corporal Alfred Louis firing shots at the vehicle, sparked significant protests by local youths in the Emohua Local Government Area and Port Harcourt.
