The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expanded its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) deployment for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, increasing the number of devices to 5,130 and backup units to 1,328. A mock accreditation tour across selected polling units confirmed the machines work reliably, with voter verification taking 30 seconds to two minutes using fingerprint or facial recognition.

INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan said 2,339,233 registered voters will cast ballots in 3,763 polling units across 30 local government areas, with 14 political parties contesting. About 32,000 National Youth Service Corps members have been recruited to support election logistics. Security preparations involve coordination with the police, the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs and the Inter‑Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), with intelligence‑led deployments to identified flashpoints.

Traditional rulers, including the Ataoja of Osogbo, have urged a peaceful, free and credible poll, while INEC stressed that the outcome will be decided by ballots, not violence, and called on media to report responsibly and combat misinformation.
